Lisbon to Maputo — The Long Way Round

De Lisboa a Maputo — A Volta Longa

📍 Luanda / Maputo, Mozambique

Late evening at Lisbon airport. Raul, Vasco and I under the boarding gates sign, backpacks on, tickets in hand. Next stop: Luanda.

The flight went fine. The three-hour delay in Luanda, less so. But we made the best of it, found a terrace and ordered Angola's two most famous beers, Cuca and Eka. Both cold, both good. Meanwhile, the boys took turns perfecting their power naps on the plane, one curled against the window, the other propped on his fist with AirPods in. Professionals.

We landed in Maputo in the evening, squeezed into a car packed with bags and sleeping gear. But we weren't heading to the hotel yet, we were heading to meet Raul and Vasco's cousins, my nieces. They were waiting, super excited. That's what we needed after a long day of travel.

Day one: done. Tomorrow, the road begins.
