Ilha de Moçambique — Gabriela, Idalino, and Amisse's Fire

Ilha de Moçambique — A Gabriela, o Idalino e o Lume do Amisse

📍 Ilha de Moçambique, Moçambique

We left at 7:00 AM. Residencial Malema delivered.

We wanted to reach the island before 12:00 PM, but it wasn't possible, not only because we hit rush hour in Nampula, but mainly because from Nampula to the island we were stopped by three brigades of police officers. As many as in our entire trip so far.

Three police stops in 200 km. Yes, we are already in Mozambique.

At the first one, officer Gabriela kept a Benfica jersey for her 14-year-old son, Kelvin. She insisted my tires were too narrow, I didn't want to waste any more time.

At the second, 200 meticais solved the problem.

At the third, a simple "we're really in a hurry" was enough.

We only arrived at 12:45 PM, but still in time for lunch. The island never disappoints. There was a 90% chance of rain predicted, but the weather was great, "must be a system glitch."

Sunset Dream has seen better days; it's tired after the cyclone, but it's still a charming house and ideal for the three of us.

Sara, Cássio, and Lai are there to help, a dream team, generous and available. I told Sara to go rest because we didn't need anything until the next day (breakfast). She thanked me.

We went to Relíquias, where Fernando and Tomek put an end to their desire without eating the 'lobster-pai'. I went for shrimp.

We went to Pontão to watch the sunset, where I learned that Amana lost the concession for the little bar and now someone else is running it, and it's much improved. At least the offerings are more varied. I miss the days when there was only lukewarm beer :).

We decided to give Flor da Rosa another chance for dinner, where on a fateful day in 2022 we waited 4 hours for dinner, but there were 18 of us. I reconnected with Amisse and Atija, who remembered that episode and guaranteed that today we would only wait 35 minutes. Their precision surprised us: 35 is magical, because being more than 30 doesn't create the hope that it will be quick, but it's also not a 45 that can demoralize the most hurried customer. We had time.

Amisse went to make the fire near us, so we could track the delay in real-time. But that wasn't important anymore :).

Another bellyful of lobster and confirmation that the island doesn't disappoint.

It's Friday night, but there's no party on the island, it's Ramadan. Which is good, because we need to rest and watch the stars at Sunset Dream, without rushing. We are on Ilha de Moçambique.
