Kruger — The Lions Day

Kruger — O Dia dos Leões

📍 Kruger National Park / Phomola Manor, África do Sul

This day was one of the best Kruger days for the three of us. When it comes to lions, there is no doubt.

It helped that we stuck to the plan of waking up at 5 AM. Despite the difficulty of getting the boys out of bed, not comparable, however, to doing the same operation to go to school or simply to come help set the lunch table on a Sunday. By 5:30 AM we were on the road.

The rest, the images speak for themselves. Six different lion sightings, all by the roadside. Cubs, females, males. Breathtaking landscapes.

Until, on their own initiative, but with a little push from me, the boys realized that Bad Bunny was too much as background music in that already perfect scenario that needed no additional seasoning.

We went to sleep at Phomola Manor. The road there was tough because the January rains washed away the bridge, but it was worth it. It really was. I heard "paradise", but maybe it was just my imagination. Still, I wouldn't be surprised, we had a pool just for us with a view of elephants.

Despite having WiFi (mega feature), that didn't stop the conversations from flowing. After the braai, we grilled a top-quality Carminha steak that came with packet Lays, Phomola is 100% self-catering, we got to the difficulty we sometimes have in sharing feelings. But we also went through politics, the youngest's favorite topic, always in provocation mode 😜.

Raul still managed to put the Benfica game on the house TV. I only watched the first half, because tomorrow I wake up early.

I'm writing this post precisely on the morning of the 18th, while they sleep, and I wonder: what time did they go to bed? I'm now going to wake them up and make some fried eggs with beans. The day will be long until Sun City.
